Bachelor of Economics and Applied Statistics

Objectives the Programme

  • To produce competent Economists and Statisticians with adequate knowledge, skills, concern and proficiency to meet the challenges of Statistical Analysis and Economic Planning in a developing country.
  • To instil in students an enthusiasm for Statistics, an appreciation of its application in different   contexts and to involve them in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.
  • To establish in students an appreciation of the importance and sustainability of the academic, economic, environmental and social context.
  • To create an atmosphere of decision making in order to maximize and utilize the scarce commodities of life, and to appreciate alternatives at less cost. 

Objectives

  • Attract motivated students of reasonably high intellectual calibre, both from within and outside Uganda and irrespective of race or creed, and teach them in a way that instils enthusiasm for the subject and encourages originality of thought and breadth of vision.
  • Provide all students with a broad education in fundamental aspects of Economics and Statistics at a comparable level to other good Universities internationally.
  • Provide a broad and balanced, supportive learning environment, underpinned by research.
  • Provide distinctive modules at each level within appropriate areas of Economics and Statistics, drawing on the expertise and strengths of our academic staff.
  • Foster the ability to work independently and as part of a group, and to develop presentation skills, both written and oral.
  • Produce 1st degree graduates well equipped to pursue careers both in Economics, Statistics and computer data analysis.
  • Produce graduates with the skills needed to undertake research at higher degree level and be able to interpret research findings.
  • Produce graduates who will be the future leaders in the practice, applications and advancement of Economics and Statistics.
